Potentially UTTERLY INSANE.

This card makes me so happy to be playing Phoenix.... truly potentially insane.

One big limitation - you actually have to win a Ring. If you can't, it's a dead card.

What do people see is good in this card? When I looked at this card I kinda went "meh" and moved on.

It's tricky, sure. Enabling your 1/1 Earth shugenja seems good. But very little (nothing?) aside from the 1/1 care about what ring you have claimed, and it'll only possibly turn a profit on turn 3, after rings have had Fate dropped on them twice. It denies your opponent a target ring, yes, but I haven't seen a ton of situations where I would prefer my opponent use an already claimed ring over a ring in the pool.

This is a toolbox card that allows multiple different plays, from denying your opponent a ring, getting a ring you need, allowing multiple claims of a ring. Fate is an added bonus. It does not work quite yet due to the lack of streamlining with only one core out so far. But can see this as a constant 2 of in Phoenix decks later on.

It'll probably be more important later, when we have more shugenja that have "during an x conflict" on them. Being able to run that ring, claim it and then run it again seems helpful.

Personally, I like to use it for a couple things. Since there's an action window between conflicts, you can use it right before your second conflict to swap your claimed ring back into the pool, allowing you to target the same ring for a second run. Or you can play it in that last action window after the last conflict ends, and use Shiba Tsukune's ability to re-trigger one of the rings you claimed. Great opportunity for things like an extra trigger on Void to finish off an opponent's character with 1 fate left, or to trigger Fire to honor your/dishonor your opponent's character who is out of fate and about to leave play.

Or steal that last honor. Or gain an extra 2 honor. Or draw an extra card and force them to discard another. It's useful, provisionally, if not always.
